Self-Constraint
This sculpture was created as my Bachelor’s degree work at the “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iasi, Sculpture Department. The work explores the idea of self-constraint and self-imposed limitation.
The human figure is shown in a closed, compressed posture, binding its own body with rope, suggesting that the individual becomes their own obstacle. The rope functions as a symbolic “lock”—a threshold not imposed from outside, but created by the person themselves. The heavy, rigid material reinforces the sense of weight, stagnation, and difficulty of movement.
Conceived as a symbolic self-portrait, the sculpture ultimately represents a universal inner condition, recognizable within contemporary human experience.
